Ronda Shawl Pattern

About the design: This design takes its name from a beautiful town in the south of Spain, Ronda, known for, amongst other things, for being the only place in Spain where the ”Goyescas” bullfights take place. I must say I am not in favor of this tradition, as I loathe animal abuse, but I can’t help but admit that I am greatly seduced by the aesthetics of the “trajes de luces”, the garments the wear for the “Goyescas”: garments that combine very contrasting colors and reclaim the aestethics expressed all over so many paintings by brilliant master of Spanish painting, Francisco de Goya; the color contrast in the buttonhole line, it visually reminds me of the well known and famous “madroño”, an essential accessory in any goyesca garment.

Materials
Approximately 420-650 yards (384 – 594 m) of fingering weight yarn for size L: 420 yards in MC (100g, 1 skein) and 210 yards in CC (50g, 0.5 skeins) and 650 yards for size S (150g, 1.5 skeins).

Needles: Suggested Needle Size: US 6 (4.0mm). One 32” (80cm) circular needle in size needed to obtain gauge.

Notions: Locking Stitch Maker, Blunt Tapestry Needle. T-pins and Blocking Wires (optional).

Gauge: 30 stitches and 45 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in Garter Stitch
